Vocal Recording

Capture the true essence of your voice in a precision-engineered acoustic environment. Located in the heart of Chuo-ku, Fukuoka, our studio provides the technical foundation for your vocal performances.

Japanese singer recording vocals with a professional microphone in a booth

Vocal recording is a critical phase that defines the emotional impact and clarity of a musical project. At Grushdelta, we utilize a dedicated vocal cabin within our 120m² facility to ensure a controlled recording environment. By combining large diaphragm condenser microphones with professional acoustic treatment, we minimize unwanted reflections and capture a pure, transparent signal.

Our recording engineers focus on the technical aspects of the session, managing microphone positioning and gain stages to prevent clipping while preserving dynamic range. We adapt the signal chain to suit the specific genre and character of the voice, ensuring that the raw audio provides maximum flexibility for subsequent mixing and mastering stages.

Our 4-Step Recording Process

01

Pre-Session Consultation

We discuss the tempo, key, and desired vocal expression. By reviewing your demo tracks, our engineer selects the most appropriate microphone and preamp combination for your voice.

02

Sound Check & Leveling

We perform precise microphone placement and input level checks in the booth. The goal is to find the position where the artist feels comfortable and the sound is technically accurate.

03

Tracking Session

We record multiple takes to capture the required performance. The engineer monitors pitch, timing, and emotional delivery, ensuring all takes are recorded without distortion.

04

Data Organization & Delivery

We compile the recorded takes, remove silence, and export the files into the requested format. You receive organized dry stems ready for the next production stage.

Who is this service for?

Our vocal recording services are designed for singer-songwriters aiming for commercial releases, as well as independent musicians creating high-quality demo tapes. We also accommodate creators who require professional narration or voice-over recordings for podcasts and advertisements.

This service is specifically recommended for those who require a level of "air" and dynamic range that is difficult to achieve in home-recording setups. The combination of a treated booth and nearfield monitoring allows for a performance that is both technically sound and artistically focused.

Technical Workflow

The session operates via a constant communication loop between the control room, where the engineer manages the DAW, and the vocal booth. Artists receive a precise guide track through high-quality headphones, allowing them to stay in sync with the arrangement.

During the process, the engineer monitors the waveform in real-time to avoid digital clipping. Depending on the artist's preference, we can adjust the amount of reverb or delay sent to the headphones to create a more comfortable singing environment.

What to Prepare Before Your Session

To maximize your studio time, we ask that you prepare your guide tracks (backing tracks) in WAV format. We also recommend bringing printed lyrics or a structured song map to avoid confusion during takes.

From a physical standpoint, we suggest staying hydrated and performing a thorough vocal warm-up before arriving. For data transfer, you may bring a USB drive or specify a preferred cloud storage service. For a detailed checklist, please visit our Preparation Guide for Recording.

Deliverables and Results

Upon completion of the session, we provide the recorded audio in non-compressed WAV format (typically 44.1kHz/24-bit or higher), with MP3 exports available upon request.

The deliverables are "dry" audio files, meaning they are free of effects like reverb or compression. This ensures that the mixing engineer has full control over the final sound. If multiple takes were recorded, we provide the raw stems and a suggested "best take" compilation.

Timelines and Turnaround

The recording session occurs within the booked time slots, which are billed in one-hour increments. The organization and export of the final data are typically completed within 24 hours after the session ends.

For urgent projects with tight deadlines, please notify us during the booking process. We strive to provide a rapid turnaround from the final take to the digital delivery of your files.

What is NOT included

This service focuses exclusively on the recording phase. The following processes are not included in the vocal recording rate:

  • Pitch correction (tuning) or precise timing edits (vocal alignment)
  • Balance adjustment with other instruments (mixing) or final loudness processing (mastering)
  • Lyric writing, composition, or vocal coaching/instruction
  • Promotional photography or video recording of the session

If you require these services, we recommend our Mixing & Mastering package.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am not a professional singer; does the engineer provide vocal coaching?

Our engineers are technical experts in audio capture, not vocal coaches. While we do not provide singing lessons, we fully support your artistic vision by adjusting microphone placement and monitor mixes to help you achieve the desired sound.

How many songs can I typically record in one hour?

This depends on the complexity of the song and the number of takes required. For a high-quality vocal track, we generally recommend allocating 1 to 2 hours per song. You can find tips on efficiency in our Preparation Guide.

How long are my recorded files stored?

Grushdelta maintains a session archive for up to 12 months. After this period, data is permanently deleted. We strongly advise all clients to save their own backups immediately upon delivery.

Can minors use the studio?

Individuals aged 16 and over may use the studio independently. Those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for safety and operational reasons.
